If you could take a pill to cure your Alcoholism, would you take it?

Well, that pill exists today—it is called Naltrexone.

Naltrexone is an opiate receptor blocker. When a person takes Naltrexone, the brain’s opioid receptors are blocked and the experience of pleasure and comfort does not occur from the action of alcohol. This blocking of the pleasure center and the behavior of drinking leads to a reduction in cravings called “pharmacological extinction.”  This results in a progressive loss of interest in drinking alcohol over time where most people lose the desire to drink excessively, or even at all. Alcoholism is effectively “cured” by minimizing or eliminating the uncontrolled cravings which are the hallmark of the alcoholic.

Naltrexone: A powerful non-addictive, non-narcotic, addiction treatment medication.

The use of Naltrexone to treat alcoholism was discovered by Dr. David Sinclair (1943-2015), a research psychologist in the late 1970’s while working on addiction and brain chemistry. Dr. Sinclair spent 40 years conducting meticulous research on Naltrexone to treat alcohol addiction. His discovery of the Alcohol Deprivation Effect and pharmacological extinction led to a medically proven way to reverse alcohol addiction in the brain.

So important was this discovery, that Dr. Sinclair was awarded a Patent by the U.S. Patent Office. Numerous clinical trials conducted in Europe and America resulted in very high success rates—78% and higher.  In 1994, the FDA approved Naltrexone (in combination with supportive psychotherapy) for the treatment of Alcohol Dependence.

Most surprisingly, Naltrexone will not work with abstinence. You actually have to drink in order for the medicine to work! This is because the behavior of drinking alcohol and the resulting pleasure must be paired with the effects of the medicine in the brain in order to lessen the cravings.

This Method of Treatment:

Requires no detoxification
Requires no withdrawal
Requires no abstinence from alcohol
Has minimal mild side effects
Is simple, cost-effective, and proven
Has resulted in an 80%-95% success rate in our office
Does not require daily dosing-taken only when drinking
Allows you to enjoy social gatherings without worry
Gives you control when and how much you drink

The Sinclair Method is a medically proven way to curb your cravings for excess or uncontrolled alcohol use.
